[Movies] Robert Englund Talks Nightmare Remake

What does the original Freddy have to say?
- IGN.com recently spoke with Robert Englund about the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Here is what the original Freddy had to say about the film…
"Hollywood remakes everything. They've been remaking things since the 20s. They remade A Star is Born a half a dozen times. So it comes with the territory. In my particular instance, Michael Bay, who has more money than God, who can do anything he wants, obviously must love the franchise or he wouldn't have put his name on it. I don't know much about the director, but I love the boy [Thomas Dekker] who's playing kind of the Johnny Depp role – I don't know how else you would describe it. He's from The Sarah Connor Chronicles."
- He was complimentary of Jackie Earle Haley, who will be taking over the role of Freddy Krueger…
"And Jackie Earle Haley, I've been a fan of his since I starred in a Vietnam movie. My Vietnam movie was with Dennis Christopher, the wonderful young actor who starred in Breaking Away, with Jackie Earle Haley. And I loved that film. It dealt with class distinction in America and all that. And I know Jackie went away for many, many years, but he's having a wonderful comeback with Little Children. Watchmen wasn't exactly a hit, but he's the best thing in Watchmen. Without a doubt, he's the best thing in Watchmen. Jackie's small, and I think because of his size, that will give him a delineation from my performance. And I've always thought of Freddy as impish. Part of my whole sort of stew. A little bit of Klaus Kinski. It was part of the stew from when I was playing him. So I wish him the best. I hope they let him make it his own and I hope they don't repeat it. I would even like to see the wardrobe change. Maybe he's a janitor. Maybe he's wearing overalls. Maybe the hat's a little different. Maybe it's an old baseball hat covering the burn scars. You have to keep the myth the same, but I wish them well."
This man is...The Man.
I hate the internet whiners who constantly complain about remakes. Hell, most of these losers have never even seen the "classic" versions of the movies they complain about getting remade.

Could Robert Englund be any more of a class act? Ive yet to hear one bad thing about him ever.

englund's a class act. his opinion could have killed this movie before it even had a chance.

It's good to see Englund being supportive of Haley as the new Freddy. I hope they get him for the cameo that's been rumored as a dream doctor.

He is the reason that i never got tired of seeing the nightmare series as a kid and i hope these new movies do well..Or they at least make a descent attempt at making an entertaining movie.

Finally somebody saying like it is. Watchmen wasn't that good of a movie or a hit. So i don't know why the 411 mania lovers are all over it like it's the next godfather.

I saw him at the Monster Mania Convention in CT and he was just so cool about the remake . . I wouldn't say it turned me around on it but its hard to hate on it when the man himself is so classy about it. JEH has a big endorsement here.

Haven't you learned anything from the Snakes on a Plane debacle? That proved that this site is written by fanboys. Now the current fanboy thing is to bash Michael Bay and Transformers like there's no tomorrow.

I thought the current fanboy thing was to SUPPORT Bay and TF2...
Eh, tomato - tomahto; its the internet.

Saying Watchmen wasn't a hit doesn't mean that it wasn't a damn good movie. And it was. MUCH better than Superman Returns and X-Men 3 and on par with Batman Begins (of course, nowhere near as good as Dark Knight).
Transformers 2 is OK; the first one was pretty good and the second one was better than most shit that is out. The Optimus fight with three Decepticons is worth it and I don't care who you are, you have to laugh at this line:
"OW! That hurt!"
"It's supposed to hurt - that's what an ass-whippin' feels like!"

Dr. Manhattan really made me dislike the Watchmen movie. He's such a fucking douche. Haley was the best thing in it, he'll do fine as Freddy.

Bay makes shitty movies, see The Island. Transformers sucked, have no interest in seeing the second movie. Megan Fox is an ugly, useless skank and Shia is a horrible actor.

After reading this I had every intention of writing a comment about the class act Robert Englund is. But I see that my fellow 411 readers have beat me to it. I am not always proud and agrreable of the other posters on here, but this is one time I am very proud of my peers and think they have it all right. Robert Englund is most definitely THE MAN, and his comments prove what a class act he is.

That was the point! did you even read the graphic novel first?

The point of Dr manhattan is to make me hate the movie, that's fucking brilliant.

Also, it's a fucking comic book not a graphic novel. Does it make you feel like less of a loser if you call them graphic novels? Allan Moore is so over rated, some bearded fuck who lives in a cave, just like you i'm guessing.

robert IS freddy, everything from his voice to his mannerisms his look, EVERYTHING. its not like the friday the 13th remake where the killer don't talk freddy has personality which I feel only englund can do but who knows we shall see. and as far as michael bay goes, he's already destroyed two great horror franchises and will probably butcher a hell of a lot more before his remake revolution comes to an end, this man has no talent or original ideas AT ALL. the only thing he does is remake other peoples work, at this rate there will be no future classics to look forward to only shitty mediocre remakes I personally hope michael bay gets AIDS and does a horrible painful death.
